Blend × YourStory

The Bharat Project

Hoker Nidar Shuru-kar.

You mentioned two big opportunities. We've been heads-down building.
Here's what we've tested, what we've learned, and how we think we can do this together.

The Conversation

You mentioned two things.
We went and dug in.

OPPORTUNITY 1

AVGC & the Government Push

The government is going big on this. Different states are spending serious money. The I&B Ministry set up a whole college. Rs 4,000 Cr+ committed. 13 states have policies now. Infrastructure is getting built everywhere — but nobody's connecting this talent to actual entrepreneurship yet.

20L jobs needed
OPPORTUNITY 2

Creator & Influencer Community

India has 80 million creators. Only 8-10% make real money from it. The government just announced a $1 billion creator fund. Creators are already launching their own brands. They influence $350B in spending. But there's no clear path from making content to building a business.

$100-125B by 2030
80M creators
$1B govt fund

These two are actually connected. AVGC is creating skilled people. The creator economy gives them a way to earn. We think YourStory and Blend can build the bridge between both.

Opportunity 1 · AVGC

The government is serious about AVGC.

Central Government

  • IICT — Indian Institute of Creative Technologies. MoI&B's AVGC-XR lighthouse. Operational since July 2025 at NFDC Mumbai. 136 students, 18 courses, 8 startups incubated. Rs 400 Cr investment. Phase 2 campus at Dadasaheb Phalke Film City.
  • Content Creator Labs — Rs 250 Cr in Union Budget 2026-27 for AVGC labs in 15,000 schools + 500 colleges. Target: 1 crore creators.
  • WAVES 2025 — PM Modi inaugurated. 90+ countries, 10,000 delegates, 350+ startups. AVGC-XR was a core pillar.
  • National AVGC-XR Policy — being rolled out. Model state policy framework circulated. Task Force recommended a dedicated National Mission.

IICT · The I&B Ministry's College

  • Modelled on IITs/IIMs — Section 8 company
  • GoI 34% + Maharashtra 14% + CII 26% + FICCI 26%
  • Partners: Google, YouTube, Adobe, Meta, Microsoft, NVIDIA, JioStar
  • Multi-state MOU signed at GAFX 2026 — expansion to 10+ states by 2027
  • Vision: shape India's 40M creators into global innovators

Here's what jumps out: Every big state is spending serious money on AVGC — labs, centres of excellence, parks, policies. They're building the supply side. But who helps the talent coming out of all this actually become entrepreneurs? That's where we come in together.

What's actually happening

  • 60% of YouTube India watch time is regional language content
  • 80% of ShareChat/Moj creators are from non-metro cities
  • Kusha Kapila, Gaurav Taneja, 20+ creators launched D2C brands
  • ASCI processed 1,409 influencer violations — the space is professionalizing
  • YouTube paid $2.5B to Indian creators over 2022-2024

Where the gap is

  • Creators want to become entrepreneurs — but there's no infrastructure for it
  • No clear path from making content to building an actual business
  • One algorithm change can kill someone's income overnight
  • 78% of creators say burnout is affecting their work
  • If you're not in a metro city, good luck getting brand deals or professional help

What we've tested

We ran a pilot. Here's what actually happened.

Blend Crew · Cohort 1

Bengaluru · January–April 2026 · 3 months

Five people. ₹15K/month + bonuses. Not an internship — real work from day one. They went into Bengaluru's independent creative scene and documented, created, and connected. They covered Alien Kind, Grumpy Girl, Analogue Space, Dhurthi, Moonshot, Second Life Clothing, Talme, flea markets, and did a 3-day live content streak at GAFX 2026 — Karnataka's flagship AVGC event.

The rest of what we've built

  • Creator Hub — where creators pick up real brand projects, get paid, build portfolios. Not freelancing chaos. 8 tracks.
  • BlendHack — hackathon platform built for creative problems, not code. Customizable tracks, scoring, analytics. In beta.
  • Tessarakt — the tech and production company behind it all. Builds the platforms, runs the events, handles the infrastructure.
  • Community events — The Otaku Festival, Blend Bazaar, Gogh with the Flow. People come back because the culture is real.

The GAFX moment: The crew covered Karnataka's biggest AVGC industry event — three days, live, producing content in real time. Fast, demanding, and the entire team had to function as a unit. This is the piece of work we're most proud of from Cohort 1. It also showed us exactly how Blend plugs into the AVGC ecosystem.

Honest Talk

What worked. What didn't.

✔ What worked

  • Paying people works. ₹15K/month + bonuses. Nobody dropped out. Everyone delivered for the full 12 weeks. When creators aren't worried about money, they do their best work.
  • Real brand work beats workshops. 140+ pieces for real brands — Alien Kind, Grumpy Girl, Moonshot, and more. Every piece had creator attribution. Real portfolios, not certificates.
  • GAFX proved we can do high-pressure, big-stage work. Three days of live coverage at Karnataka's flagship AVGC event. The whole crew functioned as a unit under real pressure.
  • Small teams build trust fast. Five people for three months. They pushed each other, covered for each other. The bond was real. Graduates already want to lead the next cohort.

✘ What we learned the hard way

  • We threw people into briefs too fast. Should've done a proper onboarding week first — expectations, tools, workflow, culture. Jumping straight in created confusion early on.
  • Final-year students handle it better. First and second-year students struggled with consistency. Final-year folks brought more discipline and were ready for real deadlines.
  • Brand pipeline had gaps. We didn't have enough projects lined up before the cohort started. Mid-cohort scrambling for briefs breaks momentum.
  • Social media needs someone experienced. The orbit (social media) role needs a person who already understands the game. It's too steep a learning curve for a beginner.
  • Regular one-on-ones matter more than we thought. Fortnightly check-ins made a huge difference. Without them, small problems became big ones.

Bottom line: The model works. People show up, do great work, and grow. We just need to be smarter about onboarding, pipeline, and who we pick. Everything we got wrong is fixable. Everything we got right is scalable.

Addressing Opportunity 1

AVGC: Here's how we'd go about it.

What we'd build

  • BlendHack for AVGC. We already have a hackathon platform. It supports animation, VFX, gaming, XR tracks. It's built — it just needs the right problems and sponsors.
  • Go state by state. Start where the policies are strongest — Karnataka first (we already covered GAFX), then Maharashtra (IICT), Telangana (IMAGE Tower), Tamil Nadu.
  • Plug into IICT. 136 students now, thousands soon. IICT gives them AVGC skills. We add the entrepreneurship layer — Crew, Hub, BlendHack.
  • Use the Content Creator Labs. 15,000 schools + 500 colleges getting AVGC labs. Every lab could run a BlendHack.

Who does what

  • YourStory / Bharat Project: Opens government doors (DPIIT, state AVGC bodies). 10M readers cover every hackathon. BharatSparks becomes the regional showcase.
  • Blend: On-the-ground work — Campus Ambassadors in AVGC colleges, BlendHack curation, Crew cohorts for AVGC talent, Creator Hub for brand projects.
  • Tessarakt: Builds and runs the tech — BlendHack at scale, analytics across states, event production for multi-city operations.
  • ABAI + K-Tech + IICT: Mentors from 200+ studios, free venues at K-Tech hubs, talent pipeline and labs.

Simply put: Governments are building AVGC infrastructure worth thousands of crores. We become the layer that turns that talent into entrepreneurs — through real brand work, hackathons, and startup pathways. YourStory opens the doors. Blend does the ground work. Tessarakt powers the scale.

Addressing Opportunity 2

Creator Community: Helping creators actually build businesses.

What we'd build

  • Creator Hub — a proper workspace for brand projects. Clear briefs, guaranteed pay, published portfolios. Not freelancing chaos.
  • Blend Crew — 3-month paid cohorts at ₹15K/month. Creators learn to deliver for brands, manage projects, think like business owners. Graduates lead the next batch.
  • BlendHack — finds talent, connects ideas to investors. Winners go into Bharat Project's IdeaSparks and pitch at BharatSparks.
  • Shuru-kar AI — creator ideas flow into YourStory's AI co-pilot, come out as pitch docs in regional languages, enter BlendHack, get funded. It's a natural funnel.

Who does what

  • YourStory / Bharat Project: Every creator success story reaches 10M readers. Shuru-kar AI integration. Brand trust that brings in premium sponsors. TechSparks stage for top creators.
  • Blend: On-ground community work — Campus Ambassadors bringing creator entrepreneurship to Tier 2/3 colleges. 8 tracks across the creative economy. Cohort operations.
  • Tessarakt: Creator Hub platform, BlendHack engine, analytics showing which regions produce talent, event production for Blend Bazaar marketplace.
  • ABAI studios: Real briefs and hiring for creator-entrepreneurs who graduate from the program.

Simply put: 80M creators need a way to earn that doesn't depend on one algorithm. We give them structure (Crew), real work (Hub), and a shot at funding (BlendHack). YourStory tells their stories. Brands fund the cohorts. Creators become the next wave of Bharat Project entrepreneurs.

What we want to do on top

Beyond the two opportunities —
things we'd love to try together.

BlendHack × TechSparks

16 editions. $2B+ in funding. 5L+ jobs. But TechSparks has never had a creative hackathon. BlendHack adds that — 48-hour creative hack, live finals on main stage, 8 tracks, 100+ teams. Winners get K-Tech grants + ABAI mentorship.

Why it works: New Gen-Z audience, new sponsor categories (fashion, gaming, music), 500+ content pieces per event. The startup economy meets the creative economy.

Campus Ambassadors × BharatSparks

Bharat Project runs BharatSparks in states. We deploy Campus Ambassadors in every city those summits touch. They bring student energy, run pre-event BlendHacks, and feed the pipeline.

Why it works: BharatSparks gets year-round local engagement instead of one-day events. Blend gets distribution into every state Bharat Project enters.

Cross-State AVGC Flywheel

Start Karnataka (ABAI + K-Tech + Policy 3.0) → Maharashtra (IICT + Rs 3,268 Cr) → Telangana (IMAGE Tower) → Tamil Nadu → MP → Rajasthan → Kerala. Each state has money, policy, and infrastructure. We bring the community layer.

What success looks like: 1 state in Y1, 5 in Y2, 10+ in Y3. Each state = BlendHack chapter + Campus Ambassadors + Crew cohorts.

Blend Bazaar × IdeaSparks

Blend Bazaar is our marketplace connecting creative entrepreneurs, brands, and consumers. Combined with Bharat Project's IdeaSparks (top 1,000 ideas from 1,000+ districts), it becomes a national creative marketplace.

What success looks like: A physical + digital marketplace where Bharat Project entrepreneurs sell, test, and scale their creative products.

↻ Every loop = more creators, more states, more stories

YourStory compounds via

State MOUs → open districts. Bihar (38 districts), Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Assam. Each state MOU = new campuses, new BlendHack chapters, new content. 10M readers amplify every success story, attracting more states and brands.

Blend compounds via

Crew graduates become EIRs who lead the next cohort. Campus Ambassadors recruit more ambassadors. Each BlendHack produces winners who enter Crew. Each Crew cohort delivers for brands who fund more cohorts. Self-reinforcing.

Tessarakt compounds via

Each BlendHack run improves the platform. Analytics show which regions produce talent. Event playbooks get sharper with every city. Infrastructure that was custom becomes turnkey. 1 city → 5 → 15 with decreasing marginal cost.
